Update 12/8/17
Claim approved. Quote from my shop approved. Check is in the mail. Scheduled for repairs Monday of the week after next. (12/18/17)
I also have a rental authorization, but I don’t think I’ll use it? The Alfa should be out of the shop by then and the Saab is running well enough. Oh and also the Volvo...
Funny, when I called the adjuster, she looked at my estimate and said “You sure this is for the right car? They’re usually way more than that!”
Luck was with me, I guess.
Original post from 12/7/17
So last night was the first time we were going to drop below freezing. Knowing the Landy’s coolant was sub-par, I was planning on changing the coolant. On the way to do so, I whacked my elbow on a door frame, and decided working on the car could wait.
Then I got a knock on the door.
While I was sitting at the computer lamenting my boo boo, my neighbor’s wife backed into my street parked Landy.
Oh fate, you are a fickle bitch.
The damage LOOKS bad, but there is little to no sheet-metal damage that I can see. Also very cool of them to come and fess up.
I took it to my body shop this morning and they wrote an estimate for $1,800, which should be just out of totaling range, which is good.
All in all... not too bad.

I had a deer decide to make a suicide run at my Legacy while I was coming home one night. It bolted out of the woods and slammed into my right fender. Seemed like a young buck, because it left quite a dent in the A pillar. I was lucky it missed the windshield.
It did kill my right mirror and right tweeter in the process, and screwed up my right headlight.
Moral of the story: Deer are domestic terrorists.

Fantastic opportunity for a winch bumper I would say.

I did look into it a bit, but I don’t love any of the ones I saw. Also not sure how that would work with insurance. Looks like they’re going to want a post-repair inspection.

With insurance, you’d just opt to take a payment for the value of the repair and not have a shop complete the repair.
IMO, ARB makes one of if not the best bull bars around. I dunno if you’d want your neighbor to be so aware that you spent their insurance payout on accessories though.

’Tis but a scratch!
I’m glad you have honest neighbors.

Could’ve been worse, so glad it worked out. Also, +1 for the Disco Inferno reference.

I think you can opt to just take a payout. Rovertym makes some good stuff, that’s who made mine.

Could have been so much worse . Slightly different angle or even a few inches different and I’d be looking at a branded title.

when a chunk tire caused 1600 dollars in damage to the cobalt but it was minor body damage i could live with i just had them cut me a check, bought a new headlight from a u pull it yard for 40 bucks then just pocketed the rest...granted the rest went into the motor replacement for the cobalt but i digress

$700 gets a decent relatively lightweight steel bumper from Rovers North. Been eyeing it for months.

Also great opportunity to put in some 03-04 refreshed headlights for the same cost./

Headlights are fine and I kinda like the pre-facelift look.

I emailed with them about 4 months ago and they were still in business. The website is still up.
